The Diversity Statement needs to DEI
End the mass struggle session
Every spring, each high school student opting to attend college must, over the dozens of applications, submit as part of their packet a diversity statement. As part of the humiliation ritual (for whites) or victim narrative (for everyone else). This is a requirement of submission of adherence to the most recent iteration of a left wing American creed of a specific type.
Let me explain how we got here. Throughout the history of the Catholic church a key component of the mass is the recitation of the Nicene Creed. All parishioners say the Creed before they receive the Eucharist. The Creed is so crucial that a slight variation based on a mistranslation of Greek and Latin of the Creed was the crux of the Orthodox schism in 1054. America is considered a creedal nation, it’s what every politician said about America from 1965 until Donald Trump was reelected. The creed being that if you believe in democracy and “the free market” and can recite the pledge of allegiance you were just as American as someone who arrived from the Mayflower…better even.
America is historically based on Protestant theology and ethics, which reviled in base repetition and rote memorization of prayers. The Creed is thus supplanted with extemporaneous preaching, in which the preacher divines by the grace of the holy spirit how the gospels and the Old Testament relate to events of today. There is a loose structure to a protestant service, and the church members are saved through the sacrifice of Jesus and testify through the divination of the holy spirit that they are sinners, they have original sin, and that their acts are not sufficient for redemption but for the grace of God through his son Jesus can they be saved.
America is still by and large a Christian, specifically protestant nation, but that Protestantism is secularized. A secular, sanitized Christianity focused on the miracle of loaves and fishes to feed “the poor”, and reciting the beatitude “the meek shall inherit the earth”. In this new manifestation, original sin is now no longer a universal human trait, but specifically a trait of white heritage Americans, as they are made to feel guilty for the society their ancestors created and defended. The Diversity Statement is an extemporaneous acceptance of the modern, secular Christianity (aka “woke” aka “politically correct”) and every student, and every applicant for every job in the University system must provide a compelling rationale for why they deserve admission and ultimately a job because of how they accept this modern creed and seek to perpetuate it. The ironic aspect of this is, we all know that “woke” means anti-white, anti-family, anti-traditional Christian, but because there is no official “creed” per se the frustrating tactic the left attempted to use was to ask critics to define “woke”.
Faced with this, the young white applicant has a few viable options; come out as gay or trans or provide evidence of support for POC or allies to a trendy cause. College entry essays also tend to favor genuine heartbreaking stories of dealing with strife and uncertainty. In an environment like this, someone like JD Vance can occasionally break through and prosper due to his herculean effort to overcome all odds. But what does that mean for parents who want to provide for their children? Applicants with parents that support and nurture their education are at a disadvantage to applicants who come from drug-addicted single mothers.
So, for those applicants, the prospective students whose parents invested heavily in time, effort, and money, who happen to be white or Asian, what are there options in a diversity statement? They must lie effectively.
To write a diversity statement for a job or student application is to submit to a public and recorded struggle session in which you must renounce the original sin of whiteness or, if you are POC, exchange your victim narrative for admittance. In neither case are the accomplishments of the applicant considered, but only where the students fit within the modern hagiography of the self. In other words, how your jealousy of the white girl in your class, or maybe how the white girl asked which country you are from, makes you fit somewhere below but in the same hierarchy as venerated George Floyd in need of justice and by extension, and thus deserve admittance to your state college.
For the student applicant, writing the diversity statement may seem like a formality, it is embraced as such, however pernicious. For a white male with an academic career trajectory, the kind that hasn’t and doesn’t rely on AI, the writing of a diversity statement is nothing less than an extended suicide note. By the way, you did read my short story on the matter, entitled the Diversity Statement, right? Because putting the time and effort into your career and reaching a point of managing others to succeed should be sufficient for career advancement. But in the current religious superstructure of secularized leftist Christianity there is no absolution for the original sin of whiteness and maleness. The ultimate form of commitment to diversity doesn’t end with adopting Haitians or turning your children trans, one must ultimately martyr yourself for the cause.
So, it has to end. Just like DEI, the diversity statement is a violation of the spirit of the civil rights act, which on the surface advocates for meritocracy and non-discrimination, and requires the applicant to buy into woke and specifically anti-white, anti-family success in order to submit themselves to university or workplace approval. Like DEI, it must be forbidden.
